ณ ป่าลึกแห่งหนึ่งในประเทศเยอรมนี ลึกเข้าไปๆ มีสามีภรรยาคู่หนึ่งอาศัยอยู่ที่นั่นอย่างมีความสุข สามีมีอาชีพเป็นคนตัดฟืน ทุกๆเช้าเขาจะออกไปทำงานอย่างอารมณ์ดี
วันหนึ่งเขาเดินไปพบกับต้นสนยักษ์ เขาคิดว่าขนาดของต้นสนนี่ใหญ่มาก หากตัดไปขายจะต้องได้ราคาดีอย่างแน่นอน ว่าแล้วเขาก็เตรียมตัวเพื่อจะตัดต้นสนยักษ์นั้น ขณะที่ดำลังเตรียมตัวจะเงื้อขวานขึ้นเพื่อจะโค่นต้นสนยักษ์ ก็เกิดเสียงร้องดังขึ้นว่า
“อย่าตัดนะ” และทันใดนั้นเองก็ปรากฎร่างเล็กๆมีปีก บินโฉบเข้ามาใกล้ๆ
ชายตัดฟืนตกใจ นางฟาจึงพูดกับชายตัดฟืนว่า
“ฉันอาศัยอยู่ในต้นไม้นี้ สงสารฉันเถอะ อย่าตัดโค่นต้นสนต้นนี้เลยนะ”
“แต่เรามีอาชีพตัดฟืนไปขาย ถ้าเราไม่ทำ เราก็ไม่มีเงินไปซื้ออาหาร”
นางฟ้าจึงตอบไปว่า ถ้าชายตัดฟืนไม่โค่นต้นสนต้นนี้ เธอจะให้พรสามประการกับชายตัดฟืนกับภรรยา หากเขาและภรรยาอยากได้อะไร ปรารถนาสิ่งใด เมื่อพูดขอออกมา ทุกสิ่งจะกลายเป็นจริงสมใจ
ชายตัดฟืนได้ยินดังนั้นก็คิดในใจว่า ถ้าเช่นนั้นเขาจะขอเงินทอง เขาคงจะได้ร่ำรวยสมใจ ชายตัดฟืนจึงรับปากกับนางฟ้า
“ได้จ้ะนางฟ้า ถ้าท่านจะให้พร ข้าก็จะไม่ตัดต้นสนยักษ์นี้”
นางฟ้าดีใจมากที่ชายตัดฟืนไม่ตัดต้นสนแล้ว เธอจึงร่ายคาคาให้พรสามประการกับชายตัดฟืนตามที่ได้สัญญาไว้ แล้วนางฟ้าก็ได้หายตัวไป
ตกเย็นชายตัดฟืนรีบกลับบ้านอย่างร่าเริงและอารมณ์ดี พอชายตัดฟืนกลับมาถึงบ้าน ขณะนั้นภรรยาของเขากำลังเตรียมอาหารเย็นอยู่ ชายตัดฟืนด้วยความใจร้อนก็รีบเล่าเรื่องที่เขาเจอกับนางฟ้าที่มอบพรสามประการให้ภรรยาฟัง ภรรยาก็ชายตัดฟืนได้ฟังก็ดีใจมาก ทั้งคู่จึงดื่มไวน์ฉลองกัน สองสามีภรรยาต่างก็วาดภาพถึงสิ่งดีๆที่จะได้จากพรของนางฟ้า ทั้งเสื้อผ้า แก้วแหวนเงินทอง ทรัพย์สินต่างๆ

ขณะจิบไวน์สามีก็รำพึงว่า
“แหม่ อยากได้ไส้กรอกชิ้นโตๆ มาแกล้มไวน์จัง” ทันทีที่เขาพูดจบก็มีเสียงดัง และแล้วก็ปรากฎไส้กรอกชิ้นโตบนโต๊ะอาหาร
พรจากนางฟ้าข้อที่หนึ่งได้ถูกใช้ไปอย่างไม่คาดคิด ทั้งคู่ต้องเสียพรไปหนึ่งข้ออย่างน่าเสียดาย ผู้เป็นภรรยาเห็นเป็นดังนั้นก็โวยวายว่า
“โอ๊ยตายแล้ว เธอทำอะไรลงไปเนี่ย เราต้องเสียพรข้อแรกให้กับไส้กรอกชิ้นนี้เนี่ยนะ ฉันล่ะอยากให้ไส้กรอกเนี่ยไปติดทีจมุกเธอจริงๆเลย”พอภรรยาพูดอย่างนั้นเสร็จ ทันใดนั้นมีเสียงดัง และแล้วไส้กรอกที่อยู่บนโต๊ะก็ลอยไปติดแน่นที่ปลายจมูกของผู้เป็นสามี พรข้อที่สองถูกใช้ไปอย่างน่าเสียดาย
สามีและภรรยาเห็นก็ตกใจ สามีก็ร้องตะโกนว่า
“ดูสิดู เธอทำอะไรลงไป พรหายไปอีกข้อแล้ว ทั้งสองรู้สึกเสียใจที่พลั้งปากพูดออกไปอย่างไม่ได้คิด ชายตัดฟืนพยายามใช้มือดึงเอาไส้กรอกออกจากจมูกของเขา แต่ดึงยังไงก็ดึงไม่ออก เขาร้องบอกให้ภรรยามาช่วยดึง ภรรยาดึงไปทางซ้ายไส้กรอกก็ไม่หลุดออกมา ภรรยาดึงไปทางขวาไส้กรอกก็ยังไม่หลุดออกมาอยู่ดี ทั้งสองคนถูลู่ถูกัง ทั้งดึงและกระชากด้วยความเจ็บปวด ภรรยาออกแรงมากขึ้นๆๆๆ ทั้งสองพยายามดึงจนหมดแรง แต่ไส้กรอกก็ยังติดอยู่ปลายจมูกสามีเหมือนเดิม
สองสามีภรรยานั่งมองหน้ากันอย่างเศร้าสร้อย ทั้งคู่ปรึกษากันว่าจะทำยังไงกันดีกับพรหนึ่งข้อที่เหลือ ถ้าจะขอให้มีเงินทองมากมายแต่หากว่าชายตัดฟืนยังมีไส้กรอกติดอยู่ที่จมูก ใครๆเห็นเข้าก็คงขบขันไปทั่ว พวกเขาก็คงไม่มีความสุข ในที่สุดทั้งสองก็ตกลงใจได้ ภรรยาจึงบอกว่าขอให้ไส้กรอกหลุดออกไปจากจมูกสามีฉันทีเถอะ
ไส้กรอกก็หลุดออกจากจมูกทันที ทั้งคู่โผเข้ากอดกันร่ำไห้ด้วยความเสียดายในพรทั้งสามประการ ที่สุดท้ายพวกเขาก็ไม่ได้อะไรเลย

The Three Wishes (นิทานพร 3 ประการ ฉบับภาษาอังกฤษ)
Children, children, do you wish for anything?

A couple lived happily together in a deep, deep forest in Germany. The husband, who was a professional woodcutter, would go to work every morning in a good mood.
One day he walked to a giant pine tree. He considered the enormous size of the tree and realized that if he cut it to sell, he would definitely get a good price on it. So, he prepared to cut down the giant pine tree. While he was preparing to raise his axe to cut down the giant pine, there was a loud cry,
“Don't cut it.” And suddenly, a small figure with wings swooped in closer.
The firewood cutter was shocked, so the angel said to him,
“I live in this tree. Have pity on me. Please Don't cut down this pine tree.”
“But my job is to cut wood to sell. If I don't do it, I won't have any money to buy food.”
So, the angel replied that if the woodcutter didn’t cut down this pine tree, she would grant him and his wife three wishes. All they had to do was ask for whatever they wanted or wished for, and everything would come true.
The woodcutter heard this and thought to himself. If this was so, then he shall ask for money. Then he would be as rich as he had always hoped for. The woodcutter made a promise to the angel,
“All right, angel. If you grant me a wish, I will not cut down this giant pine tree.”
The fairy was very happy that the woodcutter would no longer cut down the pine tree. As promised, she granted him three blessings, then disappeared.
As evening fell, the woodcutter hurried home cheerfully. When he arrived, his wife was preparing dinner. Impatiently, the woodcutter hurried to tell her about his encounter with an angel who bestowed them three wishes. When his wife heard this, she became ecstatic, so they drank wine to celebrate. The couple began to paint pictures of the good things that could come from the angel's blessings: clothing, glasses, silver or gold rings, and large amounts of treasure.

While sipping the wine, the husband mused,
“Hmm, I wish there was a big sausage to eat with the wine.” As soon as he finished speaking, there was a loud noise, and then a large piece of sausage appeared on the table.
The angel's first blessing had been used unexpectedly. Unfortunately, they had both already lost one wish. His wife saw this and shouted,
“Oh my gosh, what have you done? We lost our first wish for this sausage. I wish this sausage would go up your nose! Just as soon as his wife said that there was a loud noise, and the sausage on the table flew into the husband's nose. The second wish had been unfortunately spent.
The husband and wife were shocked. The husband shouted,
“Look, look, what have you done? Another wish has been used.” Both of them regretted their actions for having spoken without thinking. The woodcutter tried to use his hands to pull the sausage out of his nose, but it wouldn’t budge. He called for his wife to help pull it out. The wife pulled it to the left, but it wouldn’t come out. She then pulled to the right, but it still wouldn’t come out. The two of them were stunned. They both pulled and yanked in pain. The wife exerted more and more energy. They tried to pull it out until they were exhausted, but the sausage was still stuck on the tip of the husband's nose.
The husband and wife looked at each other sadly. The couple discussed what to do with the remaining wish. If they asked for a lot of money and the woodcutter still had a sausage stuck in his nose, anyone who saw this would be amused. However, the two finally agreed. The wife wished for the sausage to come out of her husband's nose.
The sausage immediately fell out of his nose. The two threw themselves into each other's arms and wept with regret for the three wishes. In the end, they got nothing.
